Nervous Patients

At Roseacre, we believe that empathetic, pain free dentistry must be our goal every day

Having dental treatment is never easy and patients often feel embarrassed about their dental fears.

Dental phobia is unfortunately very common and with a little time and understanding almost everyone can achieve good dental health.

Everybody has different concerns and worries when they come to see the dentist and time is given to you to discuss this. We believe in giving you as much time with the dentist as you need to create a positive relationship, allowing discussion of all treatment plans and also to allow the time needed for local anaesthetics to work.

If you have a severe dental phobia or extensive or difficult procedures, we may be able to treat you under intravenous sedation. This form of Sedation is given to you by a separate Doctor or Dentist, alongside your usual Dentist, so you know you are well cared for and someone is monitoring you at all times.

In intravenous sedation or IV sedation, a drug is administered though an injection in the back of the hand to make people feel like they are asleep. IV sedation does not actually induce sleep; instead, you remain conscious and can follow instructions from your dentist, and communicate well. However, the feelings of relaxation will be intense enough for you not to remember much about what happened under treatment. This is because the kind of drugs that are used in this kind of sedation can bring about amnesia, either in part or in full, from the time you begin to feel the effects of the sedation, to the time the effect wears off.

This form of Sedation wears off quite quickly, enabling you to be escorted home by a Relative or Friend a short while after your treatment has been completed.

Please ask at Reception, or Contact us for more details on IV Sedation
