DENTAL THERAPISTS

Maintaining dental health through preventative care in Kent

We are delighted to have two qualified dental therapists at Roseacre Dental Practice. Common procedures performed by our dental therapists include examinations, prescribing and taking dental x-rays, administration of local anaesthesia, adult and child fillings, pulpal therapies in children, extraction of baby teeth and preventive therapies such as fissure sealants and fluoride application.

We believe in the importance of preventative and informed dental care, which is why we encourage you to introduce your children to the dentist early on. This way we can educate them on the importance of dental hygiene and show them how to best take care of their teeth.

  • Dental therapists can take x-rays should they be needed
  • We can safely extract baby teeth
  • Our therapists can safely perform adult and child fillings
  • Educate and inform on preventative dental care

Oral health education and promotion also plays a large part in our dental therapists role.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

About your Dental Therapists in Kent

  1. What is a dental therapist?

Our dental therapists are key members of our team at Roseacre Dental Practice. They provide routine care for our patients and support our dentists to ensure the highest quality of dentistry is performed.

  2. What treatments do they provide?

Our dental therapists provide attentive care that includes examinations, prescribing medications, and x-rays to support further treatment. They can also place adult and child fillings with care and precision, and extract baby teeth safely and efficiently. They can provide preventative dental care and introduce you to products and techniques that will benefit your care routine.

  3. What is a fissure sealant?

Fissure sealants are plastic coatings that are painted on to the grooves of the back of the teeth. They form a protective layer that keeps food and bacteria from getting stuck in the tiny grooves in the teeth, helping to prevent decay. Our dental therapists can provide this treatment to keep your teeth in the best condition possible.

  4. What is pulpal therapy for children?

The pulp is integral to the development and stability of your children’s teeth, but through accident or trauma it can become exposed and inflamed. Pulpal therapy will maintain the tooth so we don’t lose it, and can be used in both baby teeth and adult teeth.

  5. Why should my child receive fluoride application?

We use a fluoride varnish to coat the outside of the tooth to protect against tooth decay. The gel sets quickly, has a pleasant taste, and a fruity smell to ensure your child remains relaxed and comfortable during their treatment. By applying fluoride twice and year and maintaining good brushing habits, you can drastically reduce the chances of tooth decay.
